Pig Roast Cleared a profit on ticket sales of £178. The bar takings were good too. Worth running it again next year if possible.
Fixture Secretary report.
Indoor Club Matches
I have agreed the same 5 indoor fixtures as last year. Do we want an additional match with Wedmore?
For the first time the Indoor matches will be online for members to indicate their availability.
Will someone advise Messrs Nash and Watts.
This year has involved more changes to fixtures than I have ever known. Mostly caused by the heatwave.
Two Tourists; Shaftesbury and Fareham cancelled. Also Avon and Somerset Police. I will not offer them a game in 2027.
The Parrot Shield matches were moved a number of times this year for various reasons including heat and because it has been played the day after Turnbull for the last few years. It does make for a busy week.Banwell found this restricted their selection.
I will look to move and also reinstate two weeks in between legs.
2027 Fixtures
Opening Day 2027 date or week
The week numbers for 2027 have moved on by one week compared with 2026.
Do we want to follow this year’s date or week.? EG in 2027 Opening Day 11th or 18th April?
Club Competitions – Finals Weekend
To accommodate a tourist match I have agreed with Greg Keenan, the Competitions Secretary, to move Finals weekend back one week to 29th August. This helps him too, as it gives him an extra week to organise Trophy and glasses engraving.
Tourists
I currently have 3 bookings for 2027 including a Ladies team from Bowls Isle of Wight and a Men’s match against Abertillery. The other one is from Gilwern who enjoyed it so much this year they want to come back in 2027. I need the greenkeepers permission to offer the Ladies team a game in the morning starting at 10.30am.
Availability System
Happily this seems to have been successful after one or two ‘teething problems.
For 2027 I intend to extend to include recording responses by members ,results and team sheets – Captains will be able to analyse performance.
Mens’ Section Report
Men’s Playing Report for August A Team. A very disappointing final three games of the season loosing all three matches, picking up only 4 points. Our away performance has been disappointing through the season. (Unclear as to our final position in the table because of unresolved results associated with unplayed matches) B Team 3 matches played, 2 won 1 lost. Points 24 for and 12 against. The loss was against the league leaders Victoria who had not lost all season. We ended up 4th place in the Div 2 North league but were equal 3rd on points with Clevedon Prom who had a better shot difference and only 1 point behind Nailsea who had a worse shot difference than us. Altogether a good performance and my thanks go to all who played in the B team during the season for the support given to me. C Team Other Matches At the beginning of the month we played the second leg of the Parrot Shield away at Banwell, winning by a sufficient margin to give us an overall victory across both legs. A friendly match against Wyrral Park and a couple of Tourist matches allowed us to give some members who do not routinely play competitively and in unfamiliar positions on the rink a game. It is of note that two of our scheduled matches were cancelled by opposition teams this month. In both cases this was because of their inability to raise a team. In the case of the Sydney Gardens Trophy Match against Bath I was able to directly observe the background to the cancellation as we were playing them at home on the Saturday prior to pour fixture. My understanding was that they were unable to persuade sufficient members to commit to play, seemingly because of the pressure of the number of games they had in their calendar.
Ladies Captain Report.
We have had a mixed end to the season with some weeks being heavily dominated by bowls matches due to postponements due to the hot weather and filming.
4 th August – NSTL game against Long Ashton away . We gained one point for a draw on one rink. Unfortunately we lost heavily as we struggled on the green. It was particularly patchy due to the hot weather.
On 6 th August our game against Portishead at home was more successful as the outcome was a draw gaining us 4 points in the NSTL league.
The NSTL game against Portishead RBL on 17 th August was a loss.
The following day 18th August against Victoria away in the Wessex league resulted in a2 points for Chrissies winning rink.
Again on 20 th away against Clevedon Prom we gained 2 points for Barbara’s winning rink in the Wessex league.
On 25 th August we played at home against Isle of Wedmore in the Wessex league. One point for a draw on Margaret’s rink.
At last on Thursday 27 th playing against Ashcombe in the Wessex league we won the game and also on two rinks. 8 points for the Wessex league.
On 28 th August we won against Congresbury . A win on Barbara and Chrissies rink. 8 points.
NSTL game against Clarence at home was a win gaining 8 points. Chrissie and Yvonne’s rink gaining 2 points each.
Our rescheduled game against Clevedon Prom at home on 3 rd was another 8 point win. Barbara and Yvonne’s rinks winning. NSTL
The last game of the season at Ashcombe in the NSTL league was a loss on all rinks.
So a mixed bag of results. We have not received the final league tables yet as some clubs still have games to play.
Our friendly game against Banwell was cancelled as they could not raise a team.
We are very proud of the Winscombe Ladies. Their positive attitude is commendable and they don’t give up ! We have improved greatly as the season has progressed
Estate Report.
I would like to thank Yvonne, Bob B, Terry P, Martin M and Dave Leach for maintaining the flowers, hedges and borders.
We do get compliments from visiting clubs on how nice they look.
I am disappointed with the turn out I get from members for a monthly maintenance meeting; this is despite emailing all the volunteers. In fact, only Robin Lowis and Dave Leach turned up on the last occasions.
Repairs to the pathway
I am arranging with Andy Chambers to give me a date for the pathway resurfacing; this is to take place after the end of our outdoor season, probably in October, after Andy has had his holiday.
Solar Panels
I have obtained another quotation for a Solar panel installation from a local electrician (Chris Norman) of £12,500 as compared to the first quote of £9,363 for Solar Panels and battery storage. There are differences in the specifications and equipment which I will delve into if we decide this is something we want to pursue.
Before we can consider an installation, we will need to survey the roof, this can cost around £600.
Side Gate
As you know we have a cost of £580 from Banwell Garden Centre to supply and install a pair of side gates. Approval required.
Winter change over.
Date required please.
Social. Andy Wesson is prepared to run some Quiz nights.
.Welfare. Chris Byles has had her knee operation and Eve Watts is still under the hospital we wish them well.

Proposal for Adjusted Match Start Times During Hot Weather Periods from Ashcombe BC for the Over 55’s League. It was agreed that we would support this in principle.
It was agreed that Darren Kibby could prepare food at some Mens Internal league games.
Transfer of Ownership is planned for December 1st.
Chrissie Bryant raised the subject of possible Sublimated new shirts and name badges for members. This was put on hold.
Ken Whatling suggested that in future Captains of the day should be responsible for putting out mats scoreboards rather than the greenkeeper.
Wilf Ainsworth reported that the short mat was well supported with 44 players plus 10 reserves.
He also requested a new drinks cooler for the bar to replace the old fridge currently used at a cost of approx. £550 .This was agreed for next season.
Yvonne Greenwood outlined the arrangements for closing day.
Lew Collier suggested we move the Defribulator to the porch and arrange some training for its use.
Comment was raised that on Finals weekend no use of our qualified markers was used.
The meeting closed at 8.15 pm.
Date and time of next committee meeting: Tuesday October 6th at 2.30pmpm 2026.
Signed …………. …………President
